Over the summer there was an album cover contest for one of my favorite video games, Cyberpunk 2077, to win a free signed album of songs from the game. I wanted to join to keep up with my skills using programs like InDesign, illustrator, and Photoshop over the summer break and it also seemed like a fun project that I would love to do more of!
There were very few rules (keep it in the right format & not use certain characters from the game for legal reasons), so I had all creative freedom! The character on each cover I created was the character, V, that I made in the game and used the photo mode in the game to capture the headshots. I also had to come up with a name for the album, which I used an item in the game for inspiration, and came up with “Thermal Burn” for the name !
I then took the photo into Photoshop to cut out any unnecessary background and put a few filters over it to adjust the color and texture. Then I used Illustrator to play with different designs for the text and background details. I used a lot of pinks and purples because those colors stick out to me a lot in a cyberpunk world and also the character’s hair is pink so I thought it fit perfectly. I also wanted it to look modern but also rough and textured so that it could fit a punk or rap album.
I ended up submitting the first photo since we could only submit one, but I’m still happy with the other two designs!

Unfortunately, I didn’t win the top 3 in the contest but it is still a fun project to do in my spare time!
