My Favorite Album Covers

As an artist and designer, I love the art of creating an album cover. I think it’s a very specific type of design that is often overlooked but is also the most consumed type of art. Many don’t often think about album covers but they’re actually extremely important! It can tell the overall vibe of the music and what you can expect from it.

I personally think the saying “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” doesn’t always apply to everything. I judge an album based on its cover based on how much effort was applied. If an artist just throws together a cover that is messy or ugly, there’s small chance that I will be interested in the album at first glance.

There doesn’t even have to be that much of a design-heavy look to it. If it is an interesting or good looking photograph, that can also be enough! But I will always have a soft spot for albums with an interesting design, whether its typography, layout or illustrative.

Here are some examples of my favorite looking albums that I still think about often;

Red Velvets, “Perfect Velvet”
Stray Kids , “Rock Star”
Red Velvets “Chill Kill”
Aespa’s, “Savage”
